Paola is a graduate student in the Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics (BMB) Program. She received a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Puerto Rico at Cayey in December 2022. There, she conducted research in Dr. Ruth Pietri’s lab carrying out a structural characterization of Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) fibrils with biophysical techniques. These included Small Angle X-Ray Scattering (SAXS) and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) to determine if the presence of hydrogen sulfide inhibited or disaggregated SOD fibrils. Paola also conducted research over the summers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Tufts University, and Johns Hopkins University. In her free time, she likes to read, explore Philly, and call her family and friends back home in Puerto Rico.
